| Methods | Medline, Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials, China National Knowledge Infrastructure and VIP databases were searched to identify randomized and quasi randomized controlled trials of acupuncture tempered with the control in hypotension. A systematic review was performed using the method recommended by the Cochrane collaboration. |
| Result | 4 trials were included and all of them were low qualities. A total of 463 patients from 4 trials were included. In the essential hypotension trials, the curative effect of acupuncture groups was not significantly higher than that of the control groups (RR 1.11, 95% CI 0.95 to. 1.29), whereas 6 months after the treatment had been completed, the curative effect of acupuncture group was significantly higher than that of the control. Group (RR 1.46, 95% CI 1.05 to 2.02). In the orthostatic hypotension trial, the curative effect of acupuncture group was significantly higher than that of the control group (RR 2.26, 95% CI 0.84 to 3.68). |
| Conclusion | Because the involved trials were the relative paucity, the current evidence cannot evaluate whether acupuncture is significantly effective for hypotension. More satisfactory evidence is required. |
