Chen Wen, Ma Wei-Ping, Yu Hai-hong, et al. [Meta-analysis on Acupuncture and Moxibustion for Treatment of Vertebrobasilar insufficiency]. Chinese Journal of Information on Traditional Chinese Medicine. 2009;16(8):107. [165974].

Objectives To assess the effectiveness and safety of acupuncture and moxibustion for treatment of vertebrobasilar insufficiency (VEI).
Methods Randomized controlled trails (RCTS) of VBI treated by acupuncture and moxibustion were collected. 8 RCTs were included and assessed. The data was statistically analyzed by Meta-analysis and Funnel plot analysis.
Results 8 RCTs were all trials of low methodological quality. Meta-analysis indicated after combination OR=4.36, confidence interval of 95% was 2.88-7.45. The rhombus was located at the right side of the median Line (Z=6.33, P<0.00001), the therapeutic effect in the treatment group was significantly higher than that of the control group. Funnel plot analysis showed skew distribution, indicating the publication bias.
Conclusion The Meta-analysis review showed that acupuncture and moxibustion is effective for VBI. However, the evidence is not strong due to the general low methodological quality.
